Early Will I Seek Thee

O God, thou art my God; early will I seek thee..." — Psalm 63:1

To seek God early is more than a matter of time—it’s a matter of trust. It’s not just about waking up before sunrise or squeezing in a devotional before the day begins. It’s about choosing to place God first—above our plans, our pressures, and even our own strength.

1. It’s Saying “I Can’t Do This Alone”

When we seek God early, we’re admitting something the world often tells us to hide: our need. We’re confessing that we don’t have all the answers, that our wisdom is limited, and that our strength runs out. It’s a quiet but powerful surrender of self-sufficiency.

Instead of rushing into the day with our own agenda, we pause and say, “Lord, I need You more than I need control.”

2. It’s Placing God at the Center, Not the Sidelines

Surrender means giving up the right to lead ourselves. When we seek God first, we’re not just asking Him to bless our plans—we’re inviting Him to shape them. We’re saying, “Before I decide, before I act, before I speak—I want to hear from You.”

It’s a daily declaration that God is not an afterthought. He is the starting point.

It’s Trusting God with the Unknowns

The morning hours often bring anxiety: What will today hold? Will I be enough? What if things go wrong? Seeking God early is surrendering those questions before they take root. It’s choosing to trust that the One who holds the day also holds us.

It’s saying, “I don’t know what’s ahead, but I know Who goes before me.”

4. It’s Offering Our First and Best

In Scripture, the firstfruits were always set apart for God. Seeking Him early is a way of offering the firstfruits of our time, attention, and affection. It’s a way of saying, “You are worthy of my best—not just what’s left over.”

This kind of surrender isn’t about obligation—it’s about love. It’s about delighting in the One who delights in us.

Begin your day with intentional pursuit. Before the phone, the news, or the noise—seek Him. Let your soul thirst for His presence, and you’ll find that even in dry places, He is your living water.

Scripture shows that He thinks, speaks, teaches, and can be grieved (Ephesians 4:30). These are not the traits of an abstract power but of a living Person who desires fellowship with us.
